Add a Parity 2 Disk

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am upgrading my Unraid machine (new Mobo and CPU) and I would like to install a second parity disk to the system.

I want to do things in the right way...

How shall I proceed after I precleared the disk?

Thanks

FYI:  no need to Preclear a disk to be used for parity since every sector is overwritten as part of creating parity so existing contents are irrelevant.   Only reason for running Preclear would be to stress test the disk prior to using it for parity.

to build parity2 all you need to do is stop the array; assign the drive as parity2; start the array to start building the contents of parity2.

Thanks itipi for the advice....

That what I did but this morning I got PARITY DEVICE IS DISABLED with 64 errors....

I got also Disk 12 with errors and disabled and disk 9 and 15 with errors but not disabled...

I am suspecting a power cable problem (I need to change them ASAP) but not sure.

Will be out for some days and I do not know if I should do something at the moment or leave everything like this and wait when back home.

PS. Diagnostics File attached

Looks more like a cable/connection problem.

Double check that all SATA data cables and power cables are securely seated.   (As far as I am concerned, the SATA connector design is THE Poster Child for how not to design a connector system!)
