Newb question #2....

Featured Replies

I just ordered 2 pro keys with the USB drives included... going to grab another 500gb drive tonight on the way home.

My question is:  can I get unRAID basic setup and running the way I want it (limited to 3 drives) and put some data on those drives and then swap the usb drive from lime-tech in when it arrives and get it to work?

If no, anyone know how long it takes to get the usb drives delivered to Canada?

Thanks,

obi

Quick answer ... yes.

Just make note of which drive you assign to which slot in the array so you can re-assign them the same later.

(most important is to continue to make the parity drive the parity drive)  It will probably figure things out if you get the data drives assigned to different slots then previously.

You probably can even put three drives in tonight, assign them all as data drives and assign no parity drive.  Fill them tonight with your files/movies/music, then in a day or two, when your new parity drive arrives, shut down the array, install the parity drive, power up, assign the new drive as parity. unRaid will then calculate parity on the array when you restart it.

I didnt realize I could work without a parity drive... didnt even think to try! lol  Defeats the purpose of RAID but if I can add it later, sweet!

Thanks for the info... I will definitely make sure to note which drive is which, or more importantly which drive is on which controller port since groups of drives I have installed in the box are of the same model!
