July 1, 201115 yr I have an unraid server i think its running the latest stable build. Occasionally when i have to reboot my home router, the unraid server doesn't pick its connection back up. To get it back online I have to go find a monitor and keyboard and hook it up so i can send the powerdown command. Problem is that I am at work right now and i just realized that my server is down from when i rebooted my router last night. I need to get it back online to get something off of it. My wife is home but i don't think i will be able to walk her through connecting up a monitor and keyboard and powering down. The two power supplies in my server are connected to a power strip. If i just had my wife flip off the power to the power strip and then turn it back on, woudl that be ok or is that running too big a risk of losing files??
July 1, 201115 yr You might be able to just momentarily press the power button. That should start an orderly shutdown. If not, holding the power button down for 8 or 10 seconds will shut it down too. (but not as cleanly) For the most part, your files will be fine. The file-systems are remarkable in how well they take to abrupt shutdowns.
