July 3, 201115 yr I have a sneaking suspicion that a large number of unRAID users come to our community from XBMC recommendations or naturally use XBMC anyway. I know there are many media players but this is just to see how large the XBMC community is here and how many XBMC installs hang off unRAID boxes. In theory a strong enough showing in this poll could swing some XBMC specific unRAID features or at least that is my hope. Poll wont expire, you can change you vote as time passes, made sticky for a short while to try and increase the likelihood of fuller feedback. Vote if you love XBMC
July 3, 201115 yr i run both XBMC and Plex (what used to be a side version of XBMC, but now is a stand alone app) I wonder if you should add a Plex button to your poll since they have some of the same code inside.
July 3, 201115 yr Once you vote, the ability to vote again (to change the number) is no longer available.
July 3, 201115 yr Author Plex has diverted considerably from XBMC so most unRAID XBMC enhancements wouldn't be useful to Plex. Joe I clicked the "Allow user to change vote" button so if that isnt working it must be a bug Quite a few replies already
July 3, 201115 yr Once you vote, the ability to vote again (to change the number) is no longer available. I think you need to remove vote first and then re-vote; that allowed me to vote again (change vote).
July 3, 201115 yr Author I.m thinking about setting up xbmc , does that count for anything? Definitely. Added an option for you.
July 3, 201115 yr I currently have a Boxee Box, Popcorn Hour, and 2 Roku's. Starting next week Im going to start building HTPC's which XBMC will be the primary use.
July 4, 201115 yr I currently have a shuttle xs35gt running openelec (XBMC) and I love it! There is nothing this little machine can't play. Completely silent and it takes around 10-15 seconds to get to the menu screen from a cold boot, faster from sleep. My harmony one brings it all together! I can't believe I was not using XBMC for longer. I plan on setting it up on another TV in the bedroom soon.
July 4, 201115 yr Author Numbers are alot bigger than expected even in these early days: 26 Users connect a total of 62 copies of XBMC to unRAID
July 4, 201115 yr I have 1 xbmc in a regular 'ole htpc, but I plan to up it to two soon. Have the SQL databse installed and already waiting for the first time I watch a show, pause it, go to the other room and continue it where I left off. Its the little things.
July 4, 201115 yr I picked up a couple of laptop's with stuffed LCD screens and have them running XBMC Live, hooked back to my Tower. Also three Xbox's with XBMC as main usage, and my main PC has XBMC as well but just for test purposes. Looked at Boxee & Plex, but as a long-time XBMC user, couldn't make the change. Once I can source a couple more compatible laptop's, I'll retire the Xbox's.
July 4, 201115 yr Moved from XBMC to the Boxee Box. They have some quality control issues with their firmware but I still think it's quite a deal for $200 over building an HTPC for XBMC.
July 5, 201115 yr I think you should add Plex, Boxee, Popcorn hour and other I know they don't help with what you want but why not and see what everyone uses?
July 5, 201115 yr I currently have 3 xboxes, 2 Acer Revos (for the HD TVs in the house), and an install on one of my desktop PCs for testing. These all run xbmc and stream from my unraid server. I also have a boxeebox, but I only use it for netflix (xbmc is much more capable for local streaming)
July 5, 201115 yr Author I think you should add Plex, Boxee, Popcorn hour and other I know they don't help with what you want but why not and see what everyone uses? Really it is as simple as they are nothing to do with XBMC.
July 5, 201115 yr I agree they are nothing to do with XBMC, and though I did like XBMC in the past, the remote access, iOS and transcoding features of Plex, combined with some of the really nice features that are up-coming make it the go-to media system for me. I'd consider a Popcorn Hour, if I could get one where I live. Whilst it might be interesting to see how many people use XBMC, I think it would be more interesting to see who uses what. After all, unRAID systems are even promoted on the main Lime Tech page as 'specifically designed for digital media storage'. It's a safe bet therefore that the vast majority of us are using some form of media streaming system. I actually think that you might be right that XBMC has a vast majority, it's the longest standing software that I'm aware of, and still in active development. Others solutions I can think of are: Myth TV Windows Media Center (inc. Media Center Extender) EyeTV TViX Popcorn Hour DLNA Roku Western Digital Streaming Player Though I'm sure there are a lot more! I'm sorry if I've upset anyone by these comments, that wasn't my intention. I guess another poll could be created for what I suggested.
July 5, 201115 yr There's already existing threads for "who uses what", so go to those if you want that. Keep this strictly XBMC.
July 5, 201115 yr Author Right who voted 5+ cause they get a pat on the back from me for sheer overkill 50 votes and counting that pretty impressive already
July 6, 201115 yr Right who voted 5+ cause they get a pat on the back from me for sheer overkill 50 votes and counting that pretty impressive already That was me, see a few posts up
July 7, 201115 yr Author 51 Users connect a total of 106 copies of XBMC to unRAID those number are starting to get quite serious
July 14, 201114 yr Author Stats update: 56 Users with 114+ Installs and counting I also suspect that since the forum doesnt mark the thread new when someone just votes and doesnt post that these stats posts inspire new users to post. Just a theory.
July 19, 201114 yr I've been using WDTV lives for ever and a day... I was introduced to XBMC a few days ago and I am already planning my build!
