July 5, 201115 yr I have 6 drives installed in my system at the moment. I have arranged them and plugged them in as follows: Parity Device - 2tb - Samsung HD203WI Disk 1 - 2tb - Hitachi 5K3000 1 Disk 2 - 2tb - Hitachi 5K3000 2 Disk 3 - 2tb - Hitachi 5K3000 3 Disk 4 - 2tb - Hitachi 5K3000 4 Disk 5 - 2tb - Hitachi 5K3000 5 However, when I type look at the way they're "arranged" in Tower > Devices > Pull Down Menu, I get the following: pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-0:0:0:0 host0 (sda) Hitachi_XXXXXXX - SN2 pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-0:0:1:0 host0 (sdb) Samsung_XXXXXXX pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:0:0 host1 (sdc) Hitachi_XXXXXXX - SN3 pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0 host1 (sdd) Hitachi_XXXXXXX - SN1 pci-0000:00:1f.5-scsi-0:0:0:0 host2 (sde) Hitachi_XXXXXXX - SN4 pci-0000:00:1f.5-scsi-1:0:0:0 host3 (sdf) Hitachi_XXXXXXX - SN5 Where SN"X" is the arrangement of the physical drives and the way that they're plugged into the motherboard. I feel as though what SHOULD pop up (but ISN'T) is something closer to this: ... (sda) Samsung ... (sdb) Hitachi - SN1 ... (sdc) Hitachi - SN2 ... (sdd) Hitachi - SN3 ... (sde) Hitachi - SN4 ... (sdf) Hitachi - SN5 I can give more information if necessary (even screenshots), but why is it not showing up how I would expect? And how do I fix it? Thanks.

Thanks. basically, you cannot fix it. the device names are assigned as each drive finishes its initialization and is discovered by the Linux OS. The designations can change from one boot to the next.
July 5, 201115 yr You don't fix it as it's not broken. It's exactly as Joe L said. Each drive's designator can/will change on reboot depending on the order the controller card, drive spin-up, BIOS, and OS detects them. The only item that matters is each individual drive's serial number. That is what the latest version of unRAID (5.0beta5 and newer) uses.
