Lost networking after shutdown/restart (V 6.11.3)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have lost all networking access on my unraid server running on an (very) old Acer AC100, was running happily but I shutdown the server as I was away for a week and on restart cannot reach the server via the lan nor can I see anything out via the console.

Console runs normally and storage all reports OK.

Normally on fixed IP, changed to DHCP, disabled VM & Docker, multiple reboots and no luck.

Also had VT-d enabled in the BIOS as it had not caused any issues previously, but have it disabled now but no change.

Diagnostics attached, would appreciate any assistance.

Cheers,

TJ.

Try renaming/deleting network.cfg on the flash drive then reboot and post new diags.

DHCP server is not providing an IP address, this suggest a router problem, or your are not connected to one.

Hi,

Have checked current LAN DHCP and its functioning, tried second direct off my ADSL modem and that has the same behavior - no connectivity in/out.

Same with setting a fixed IP (original setting) on the server.

Can see lights/activity on the port, logs when I re-plugged the ADSL modem it does recognize a change in connection status - but no valid IP.

This is npormal, not getting an IP from the DHCP server means there's a networking problem somewhere with the router, so it's expected using a static IP also won't work.

Ah Ok,

But with DHCP I have checked two separate DHCP servers (LAN + Router) that are working OK and am not getting an IP on unraid.

Whats more likely NIC failure or UNRAID issue ?

I need to get this back online was thinking options -

1.  Add NIC card to server & disable onboard NIC, or

2. Move drives/Rebuild server on alternate hardware

Anything you can suggest to try ?

Neither one is very likely, but try a different NIC if available, don't see how it can be an Unraid issue with the default network settigns.

Thanks, will take a day or two to get a alternate NIC and will update when I have news.

Hi,

Just an update, have not been able to get an alternate NIC yet, will update with details when I can.

However I migrated USB key + HDD's to replacement hardware and brought the data online again.

Looks very much like a failure in the old MB's onboard NIC.

Final update.

100% failed onboard NIC, no errors no issues found in any diagnostics I could run just no traffic passed over the NIC.

I ended up migrating Unraid to another server and loading up a windows install on the failed server as I am more familiar with Windows and debugging it.  No NIC traffic under windows either, no faults just no traffic passed over NIC.

New unraid server running well, using old cable, router port, IP etc..

Many thanks for your assistance looking at this.

Cheers,

TJY.
