January 26, 200818 yr I got my new usb key from Tom (thank you Tom), plugged it in and successfully upgraded from serversion 1 to 4.2.1... Everything worked perfectly. I could see all my disks in the management utility and could see all my files with explorer. So I went to enable user shares. Clicked on the shares menu choice. Selected enable. The utility screen froze. I closed the window and tried to re-open the management utility. It wouldn't open. I stopped the array, did a hard reboot and was able to get back into the management utility. Worked fine again. Selected the shares menu item and the management utility locked up again. I can see all the files with explorer. When I type \\tower, I see every folder on all of my drives so shares appears to be working, but I can't get back into the management utility to make any changes. I have tried to get into shares 4 times and every time it locks up, and I have to reboot to get back to the management utility. If I stop the array, I can get into shares, but it says the array has to be running to make changes and additions How do I get unstuck??
January 26, 200818 yr Usually, this is because there are too many "top level" folders and it tries to make a user-share for each and crashes when it runs out of resources. Before you enable user-shares, make a top level "Movies" folder and move all your movies into it. (I'm guessing each movie is in its own folder... did I guess right?)
January 26, 200818 yr Author OOPS Yup, each movie is in its own folder. I'll fix it right now thanks Joe
January 26, 200818 yr Wow I see this as a bug. What kind of resource runs out? RAM? Yes there should be an upper limit on the number of shares - added to the bug list.
