November 29, 20223 yr Hi all, Recently I added some 4TB WD SATA3 6Gbps disks into my raid system. It works but only runs at 1.5Gbps. MegaRaid Storage Manager shows me that the "Drive Speed" is 6.0Gbps and the "Negotiated Link Speed" is 1.5Gbps. Then I tried to put some HGST 2TB SATA3 disks into the system. They also ran at 1.5Gbps. However, I have a bunch of 640G WD6401AALS disks (very old) running at 3Gbps for almost a decade. Is there any configuration that I need to change? Or it's just that the link speed of new generation hard drives is limited by my backplane/HBA. Thank you. B.C.
November 29, 20223 yr Post what your system is your backplane may only be able to do 3 and is reducing the speed of the disk because its too fast.

Hi ijuarez, MB: Supermicro X10SLL-F CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1240L V3 RAM: Dual Samsung 8Gb DDR3 ECC Chassis: Supermicro SC846 with BPN-SAS-846EL1 Backplane HBA: LSI 9261 8i OS: Windows Server 2016 Standard Thank you. November 29, 20223 yr Looks like your hardware should do the 6GB, what's the model of the 4TB you added?

November 30, 20223 yr BPN-SAS-846EL1 support SATA up to 3Gbps, If device was 6Gbps then negotiation at 1.5 / 3Gbps is normal. ( not must highest speed ) Edited November 30, 20223 yr by Vr2Io
