Guest agent not installed - how to proceed with network interface? VM Linux at Unraid

Featured Replies

Hi

so I need to create new VW with LUBUNTU installed but I have big problem.

Once I create VM all looks fine (br0 direct bridge) but when I save my  config - network interface in config disappears and I see only this:

And when trying to install Lubuntu there is no network interface.

How can I enable network interface there? How I can install guest drivers if not having internet connection? Cannot use apt-install.

It never happened to me earlier on my other Unraid server but I installed my last VM few years ago and perhaps I miss something here?

Interfaces only show here once you've installed qemu-guest-agent in the VM. The VM would typically still have a connection working even if it doesn't show up there.

What unraid version?

6.11.5 and no network interfaces at all there. Never had such issues before.

Having the same issue on 6.11.5, Dockers are all getting access to br0 no problem, but VMs can't get on the network and it just says guest agent not installed. This is a fresh install of unraid I am using to test out the software before deciding totally on going forward with it.

You have the virtio iso mounted, but did you install the package in the VM from it?

Looks like I should have tested with Win 10(I got that going), with Win 11 you can't get passed the initial install without a network connection.

Shift-F10, type

OOBE\BYPASSNRO

It'll reboot and allow bypassing the network/online account req.

You can also use E1000 as the network adapter in the VM templates and it'll work out of the box no problems

For some reason it only shows the interfaces for my Manjaro VM and not Windows...granted all 3 are working networking included but that looks to be a bug.image.png.806a56ea44b3ae9d78f8d5d614fa5d98.png

Have you installed the qemu guest agent on windows machine?

I did not have it installed, I do now. Looks good on Win 10 but not working on Win 11...but I really doubt I will be using those on this anyway these are just tests. But I did install it on Win10/11 and works on 10:

Hi,

I am having the same problem, it works on Windows 10, but not on Windows 11.

Did you ever find a solution to get it working on Windows 11 as well?

Thank you!

Have you loaded the qemu guest agent from the virtio CD?

Yes, I even did it a few times to make sure I hadn't mis-clicked. Also rebooted the VM to see if that would help, but still doesn't work.

I suddenly have the same issue, but had it working before

I had the same issue.
A fix for me was to copy the MSI to C:\Temp and install it from there.

Anyone in the future, this is what worked for me.
