AOC-SASLP-MV8 - What 2TB drives are you using?

Featured Replies

If you are using more than one kind of drive, vote once for each kind.

If you are seeing failures or lockups on any drives, etc then post some information about them including how they are formatted and the nature of the problem and what motherboard.

I once had a problem with a Seagate LP on this controller.  Started getting post read compare errors.  Had issues with smart reports not running while preclearing.  The SMART system appeared to fail on the drive.  Finallly RMA'ed the drive, but still have this nagging feeling that the controller was partly to blame.  Since then I never preclear on that controller.  And never bought another Seagate LP drive.

I've had WD 1T EACS/EADS, Seagate 1T/1.5T 7200 RPM drives, Hitachi 2T/3T 5400 and 7200 RPM drives.  All work great.  Not sure I've ever had parity on this drive, but probably have for at least some period of time.  Normally I run parity on a MB port.

I have a mix of drives on them.

WD Ears (all un-jumpered)

Sammy F4's

2 different Seagate LP drives.

Hitachi.

No issues with any of them.

I edited the poll to allow users to vote for more than one type of drive.  I also added the Hitachi 5k3000 drives.

My personal server doesn't use a SASLP card, but in client builds I've used every type of drive in the poll except for the Hitachi 7k3000s, but there are plenty of reports in these forums of that model working well with the SASLP card as well.  I've never seen any problems specific to a certain model of hard drive, although I have seen one or two defective SASLP cards with problems replicable on multiple different drives.
