Unraid on non-removeable USB Disk or vmdk file

Recommended Posts

I need to run Unraid as a guest on a type 1 hyper-v install. I am willing to pass through an hba for the disks. But the usb pen drive is an issue. I believe the usb drive has to appear as "offline" which is not possible for removeable disks.

is unraid installable on a non-removeable pen drive? is there such a thing?

We can use tools (a couple on the internet) that allow to switch a removeable to hdd mode. Will unraid allow this? If the unraid usb drive can be set to non removable, it should be able to offline, then discrete passthrough to scsi and boot from vm.

Please lmk if someone has done this

Since you are wanting to use Unraid as a guest instead of booting bare metal, I'm moving this post to that part of the forum. Unraid as a guest is not supported, it's not forbidden, but not developed for either. There are a small group of folks that actively run Unraid as a guest, perhaps one of them may have an idea.
