disks marked a unfoprmatted

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently setup a small unraid box with just 3 disks laying around (different sizes), all worked well,I then replaced 2 of the small disks with 2 2tb disks, and they both have a green dot next to them and say unformatted, when I click to format it says format started but after refreshing saying unformatted again. any ideas? I appologize but I am brand new to UnRaid....

Thanks

I did a preclear on the 2tb disk which took 31 hours and then it allowed me to format. does this behaviour make sense? again, I am very new to all this so I am just trying to learn\\thanks

yes, clearing a disk (writing zeros to it) does not format it.  That "formatting" step is performed after you assign the disk to the array and after it shows up in the management display as unformatted. (it them presents you a "Format" button that will format the drive)
