Just purchased unraid and have a question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just purchased unraid since it's been doing a great job so far. Now my question is I've been running the free version for a few weeks now and would like to add another disk. I've shutdown the system, installed the disk, run the pre-clear script which took about 37 hours, stopped the array, added the disk under devices.

Now on the main screen the new drive appears, and it says the following:

Stopped. Found 1 new disk(s).

Start will record the new disk information and bring the expanded array on-line. All new disks which have not been factory-erased will be cleared first; and, the array will be available after the clear completes. This process takes time, but the array remains protected at all times. Caution: any data on the new disk(s) will be erased! If you want to preserve the data on the new disk(s), reset the array configuration and rebuild parity instead.

I'm sure I want to do this

Just to confirm if check the box and click start it will not remove any current data on my 3 disks (2 disks, 1 parity, ALL disks are 2TB) in the array?

Thanks!

Yes, that's what you want. Check the box, click start, and the array will be expanded with the new disk. The other disks will not be affected other than a parity rebuild on the expanded array.

It'll go faster since you've precleared.

Thanks! So I've done that now and it says:

Started

Unformatted disk(s) present

Format will create a file system in all Unformatted disks, discarding all data currently on those disks.

I'm sure I want to do this

Then the checkbox and the format button. Again this will only affect the new 2TB I added? Sorry for the silly questions, just can't risk losing the current data on the array just yet :)

The new drive should be the only one showing as unformatted. Correct?

Yip just the 1 new disk added :)

So yes, that's how it should look. Once you format it the new disk will be added to your array.
