around 55 € over here

maybe a bulk buy direct from Taiwan can make them a lot cheaper?

a few questions?

* Could This work with Unraid ? You dont even have to sacrifice a Pci-E slot.

* Does anyone has something like this running with UnRaid? (particular this one , or similar card )

* Doesn't this slow everything down? now 5 HDD on 1 sata port?

Update:

Seems that Addonics also has some of these SATA Multipliers

I've heard of these port multipliers working with unRAID, but I don't remember specifically which models.  Really no way to tell with this one without just trying it.  I see nothing to indicate that it won't work.

I suspect the more important question to ask would be "Could this work with my SATA controller?" After quickly reading up on the subject, the controller needs to support port multipliers and many controllers cannot.

Two informative links I've found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_multiplier

https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/SATA_hardware_features

If the controller supports it, I would imagine UnRaid can work with it too as it appears to be transparent to the OS. I expect FIS-support to be pretty much a requirement and even then, performance may suffer badly, possibly depending on the number of drives attached.

Thnx,, more if if 's i see,, too much chance of not working when you don't have the right controller.

the wikipedia links answers almost every question i had.

sharing the bandwith, maximum 15 drives on 1 onboard sata port,, etc etc

i wil keep it in mind for a drive upgrade-solution when there is no other options to upgrade trough pci-e x1 , x4 ,x8 or x16
