January 29, 200818 yr I am using the Asus P5B-VM DO Motherboard with the Supermicro 8 Port SATA card for a total of 16 SATA ports. unRaid will see all drives on the Supermicro and the 7 ports on the Asus motherboard but does not see the eSATA drive. I routed a cable back into the case and hooked it up to the 16th drive but I can't figure out anyway to get it to be recognized by the system. Is there something I need to do different in the bios? I have checked the cables and all seems well there, the drive spins up when the system is started. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If anyone wants to know I do like the overall system with the Thermaltake Armor case. I did have to modify the case to get the CoolerMaster 4-in-3 stackers to fit, take out the rails on two bays so the unit would slide in the case. I also had to trim the side panels of the CoolerMaster stackers to get them to fit into the three bay space in the case. I would say there is great airflow over the drives with 120mm fans on the front 12 drives and a 90mm fan on the back three drives. One drive does not have a fan and that is the eSATA drive. I have a Zalman fan controller running all 4 fans on drives and will experiment with the rpm's to see what the point is of getting too hot. The big 22cm fan is blowing air into the case and all drive fans are pulling air out of the case. I do like the way the drives come out the front of the case, unlatch the plastic holders, pull the front plastic fillers out, and slide the stacker unit right out. Each stacker is powered by two molex plugs for the fan and the four drives. Right now the system is pulling 130 watts with all drives spun down and 220 watts with everything spun up. This covers 7 fans and 16 drives so it does pull some power. I still need to do a better job of getting my drive cables organized as the cables need to be shorter. Once that is done I think I will be finished with the project. Very happy with the whole thing as long as I don't need to move it, quite heavy with all the drives installed. This would have been much more daunting without everything that has been posted on other builds in this forum. Thanks for all of that. If anyone would like to see pics or have any questions please pm me.
January 30, 200818 yr Author I changed the bios setting to AHCI, it was set to IDE. On the last page of booting up it shows the JMicron information and only shows one drive. I know this is the drive in the 7th port (Raid1) on the motherboard according to the s/n that appears in the unRaid control panel. I would guess it would also show the drive located in the eSATA port but it still does not find it. Could I have something as simple as a bad cable? This is a brand new cable from Newegg, of course that doesn't mean much since my first m/b was bad and from the same source.
