Introducing a blank / unpartitioned drive & Clearing

Featured Replies

If I use a new HDD and destroy the partition before introducting it into the Unraid build and partition it inside of Unraid, does that get me around this Pre-Clear necessity?

Nope, but the disk is cleared on the background, array is still available.

Okay, thank you. It’s a very weird way to do things, but ok.

It's needed because Unraid needs to make sure the disk is all zeroes or parity would be invalid, just being blank/no partition does not guarantee that, and if fact it won't be all zeros if the disk was ever used before.

I understand the concept behind it, it’s just very alien for anyone coming from a Linux md-raid or ZFS background.
