Replacing failing drive with larger?

Featured Replies

I've got a 3TB data drive thats slowly getting pending sectors. My setup is 1 parity and 5 data disks. All are 3TB except 1 data which is 2TB. If I buy a 6TB drive can I swap it to the parity drive and use the existing parity disk to replace the failing one, without causing undo hardship on the failing drive and making it die? Or should I do the data drive first before doing anything else?

The failing drive doesn't even need to be present for the parity swap procedure. Have you studied the documented procedure?

You can use the parity swap procedure that is designed for exactly the Use Case of upgrading the parity dtive and using the old parity drive to replace a data drive.
