December 21, 20223 yr Hello, I have been running Unraid since 2012 when my friend and I took advantage of a 2-for-1 sale and he purchased 2 Pro licences. After all these years, I thought it was about time to throw some more money at Unraid since I have definitely got my money's worth out of it, so I purchased a new Pro licence. The problem is, I don't see how to install it. Going to Tool/Registration, I see that it is registered to my friend (he paid for it) and that it is replaceable, etc. but there seems to be no way to change the licence. So my question is simple: how do I change keys from my current license to the one I just purchased? Thanks.
December 21, 20223 yr Community Expert In the /config folder of either flash drive (the new one that you purchased and the old one that your friend purchased), you will find a file named Pro.key. That file is 'bonded' to GUID of the flash drive on which it is installed. (It is critical at this juncture to realize that fact!. Each Pro.key file is unique, tied to and will only active the license for a single flash drive!) Begin by making backup of the contents of BOTH flash Drives. Make sure you name them distinctly so there is no confusion as to which is which. (A safety factor in case something goes wrong. ) Delete everything on the new flash drive. (Remember that you made a backup... right) Then copy everything from the old friend's flash drive onto the new flash drive that you just purchased the key for. Go to that backup of the new drive that you purchased the key for) look in the /config folder for the Pro.key file. copy that file to the /config folder on the new flash drive. (You will be overwriting the current file that is on that drive. Plug the new drive into the server and it should boot and be running with all of your old settings. (If it does not boot, shut the power off, and plug the drive back in your PC. Now run the make_bootable.bat file in the root of the flash drive as Administrator.) December 22, 20223 yr Author Thanks but that is not my problem. I have a working flash drive that I intend to keep (I just replaced it last year). All I want to do is replace my current working key with the one I just bought. I think I need the web interface to request that the Unraid web site generate a the key using the activation code that I received from Unraid. But if you currently have a working key, the UI will not offer to generate one, so I am stuck.
December 22, 20223 yr Community Expert I don't know if you can even get a different Pro key for the same flash drive that already has a Pro key. Contact Support.
January 5, 20233 yr Author Solution Ok, I have the answer: I can't do what I wanted, that is, keep my current flash drive and put a newly purchased key on it. Instead I have to get a new flash drive, copy the contents of my old flash drive, minus the key, and then Unraid will offer to "bond" my new key to the flash drive. Oh well.
