December 27, 20223 yr Hey everyone, I'm having a hard time building my new server in unRaid. This is my very first build, so I may have some noob questions or mistakes. My specs are as follows MB: ASRock Z790 Pro RS CPU: Intel i9-13900 RAM: Timetec Pinnacle Konduit 4x16GB SSD: SABRENT Rocket 4 Plus NVMe 1TB HDD: Seagate IronWolf Pro 6x16TB SAS HBA: LSI SAS 9300-16i As soon as unRAID boots I'm able to see all my devices. But once I tried starting a SMART test or anything else for that matter, all the HDDs fall off one-by-one and are undiscoverable. In the logs it mentioned that the power states for the drives were unable to change from D3cold to D0, or from D0 to D3hot. I have no idea what to do next and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

December 27, 20223 yr Start by updating both LSI HBAs firmware to latest, they are using a very old release.
December 27, 20223 yr Author I thought that might be an issue. I was actually reading your guide before you replied initially, and I'm having a hard time understanding how to store the ROM and which consoles you're using for inputs. Again, I'm very new to this. Hopefully you can help clarify. Sorry!

I was able to find the MSDOS FW package, but I can't seem to find the linux installer anywhere. I don't know if any other installer would be able to work for me here. I was thinking of searching through the 3008 files as that's the chipset used on the 9300. Also, since all my HDDs aren't discoverable could I copy my files into the cache drive instead?

December 27, 20223 yr Dec 27 11:09:22 Tower kernel: mpt3sas_cm1: SAS host is non-operational !!!! Dec 27 11:09:23 Tower kernel: mpt3sas_cm0: SAS host is non-operational !!!! This is happening for both HBAs, suggesting it might not be a HBA problem, start by using just one.

This is a single PCIe card. How would I use just 1 of the controllers?
December 27, 20223 yr OK, then it's a 16i model, basically two 9300-8i in the same board, then try the HBA in a different PCIe slot, if available, it could also be a bad HBA.

Moved the HBA to the top PCIe slot, booted, and restarted my SMART tests. So far they've been going for about 20 minutes. Previously I wasn't able to go past 10 minutes, so this may have been the fix. Thanks again! If I run into anymore issues with this problem I'll come right back here. You've been amazing.
