Parity swap sanity check

Featured Replies

Currently have 8 x 12TB drives.

I'm going to buy 18 TB drive and parity swap it into Parity1 then use the old 12TB drive as a new data drive. This will add 12TB of space?

Then next drive I buy will be 18TB which I will swap for Parity2 and I can then add old 12TB as a new data drive? This process will add 12TB of space?

Only with the 3rd 18TB drive I buy will I begin to add the full 18TB of space each time?

It is worth pointing out that the Parity Swap procedure is NOT what you want to use if you are simply upgrading parity to a larger drive.   Instead you want to use the process documented here in the online documentation accessible via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the GUI or the DOCS link at the top of each forum page.
