Unraid and WD TV Live

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm sure where to post that one, so please let me know if there is another better place

I built my Unraid Server few months ago, and I'm very happy with it

I use it with a WD TV Live to stream all my movies (wifi N150 for the USB adapter on the WD TV Live)

It used to work very well

But recently, I noticed some problems: the WD TV couldn't access the networshares (TOWER), or sometimes I can see the content but cannot play the movies, or yesterday it could play but it was in slow motion with no sound

I don't understand because like I said it used to work very well (and i was easy to setup) and I haven't changed anything

I've tried to reset the network configuration on the WD TV live, but same problem

But i don't even now if it comes from the WD TV live, my network (router + access points) or the server itself. I'm still able to access the server from my PC with no particular problems, so i don't think it comes from Unraid

Any idea, at least on what I should try or verify?

Thanks

Since you can connect to your unRAID box via wired connection just fine

(like from another PC) I'd rule out unRAID as the cause for your trouble.

WiFi setup is just not reliable when it comes to allocating bandwidth.

Maybe your neighbor bought some new equipment and channels have

adapted and changed or even now do overlap.

Maybe you introduced some new equipment for which

your router is reserving bandwidth via upnp (like your kids use facetime/skype

with their friends).

Maybe someone is stealing you bandwidth (...you have a guest in you WLan?  8).

Your environment has changed (someone in your family has started to wear chain mail ;D or

you bought a new mobile phone)

Seriously, this is very hard to analyse.

I'd try another WiFi channel.

You normally can set this in your AP. Some APs offer a channel scan,

select the best channel and can display disturbing sources / other APs surrounding you.

Don't use WiFi with the WDTV Live.  Wi-Fi is terrible for streaming.  If it works wired, you know it's the wireless connection.  Just run some cat5!

Well, actually I installed a Dlink wifi cam (DCS 930L)

But when i saw I had problems, I turned it off

But like I said, streaming with wifi used to work flawlessly for months!!!!

Hiow do I know what chanel to select?

Shoudl I put evryhting to N instead of N+G?

Thanks

...first confirm that your WDTV is working fine via cable, switch off wireless on it while you test.

This confirms that you really see a wireless issue.

What AP/Router and Firmware are you using?

What's the distance between AP and WDTV?

As said, your AP might give you information which channel has

the least disturbance.

Anyway, I'd probably test them one-by-one. There are approx 11-14 channels,

depending on firmware and region you live in.

N+G mode of AP has reports, to my limited knowledge, that claim better

range and compatibility, even with N-only parts in the home.

But honestly, I believe that a forum more specialized to

your problem would serve you with better, faster feedback and help.

I'd start with either WDTV or AP related support forums.
