July 1, 200818 yr Joe L. OK, thanks. Should I start a thread in 4.3 to see if anyone else is still seeing this problem? I don't want to duplicate post but I want to 1) verify that it's not fixed in 4.3.2 (or is it something specific about my setup) and 2) put in a request to get it fixed if so. A little more info, every time I go to my bookmark it makes my machine reboot. I wonder if there is just some code to prevent this when data is being written. Since the past few times I've gone to //tower it wasn't actively writing something it just reboots. This is really annoying and actually worse for me than 4.2.4, I may just have to revert. I do want to see this in the queue to get fixed though. On a related note I have a question if this is dangerous. If I have a hard drive fail and my machine were to spontaneously reboot when I go to //tower in IE (like it is now) and it kicks off a parity check is that a problem? I guess I don't know the process but if so then this could be very bad. I have a hard drive fail, don't know it, go to take a look and the machine reboots without my issuing the command. Is this a problem?

Is this a problem? I'm pretty sure it would not be good. I don't honestly know if it could recover gracefully without assistance. All your data would be there to recover, the question is if the "superblock" stored in system.dat had the bit set showing a clean shutdown (since your system is doing a parity check on re-start, odds are it is not). If the array has any disk missing, it would not do a parity check, that's for sure.

Yes, Either start a thread in 4.3 addressing this issue, or send a PM to limetech so he knows it is not yet resolved. Joe L.
July 3, 200818 yr Sorry - this is a duplicate post in the 4.3 section but I wanted to update this here too in case anyone else comes across it. Update - last night when I got home I cleared my IE7 cache/history and deleted the pre-existing bookmark to //tower then I typed //tower into the url window and it worked as normal - no reboots. I saved that new bookmark and it seems to be doing fine. For a second opinion I went into Firefox and typed //tower and it worked fine as well. I made a shortcut on my desktop to open //tower with the FF browser and I tried it about 20 times last night over the course of the night - no reboots. So it looks like everything is fine now. Something must've been stuck in the browser. Somehow it remembered the very first time I rebooted when I upgraded from 4.2.4 to 4.3.2 and never got out of that mode. If anyone else sees this strangeness you should clear your browser cache/history and if that doesn't work then delete your bookmark and re-save it. If that fails then you might want to try a different browser (although both IE7 and FF are working fine for me now). So now I'm happy that everything is working well on 4.3.2! Thanks - sorry for the false alarm. It really was rebooting every time - I swear. ;-)
August 4, 200817 yr Humm - that's really fine and dandy that it has been fixed in 4.3.x, but some of us can not upgrade to 4.3.x right now. I am one of them What is another possible solution under 4.2.4? Let's put it this way - my wife has a very low tolerance factor when it comes to unavailability with computer "stuff" as she says it. Couple of times already she wanted to watch shows she recorded with SageTV and pouf, this thing is off and worse while it was off, ... shows did not record... Needless to say I got a fairly large ration of poopoo when I got home. Anything that can be done will help! Thanks!
