July 16, 201114 yr Hey, I'm trying to make my own media server. I've read through lots of threads now but can't come to a conclusion. Which harddrive shall I buy? I want a 2TB HD which runs quiet!! because it will be on 24/7 next to my bed. Any reccomendations? EARS seems to get a lot of bad press for either slow speeds over time or being hard to set up.

July 16, 201114 yr They all run quiet when idle and spun-down. Will you really have your drives being access 24/7 with no chance for them to be idled and spun-down? This is different question than having your server turned on and running 24/7. The Green/5400rpm drives tend to run quieter than Black/7200rpm drives.
July 16, 201114 yr Author the drives would be used probably 2 hour/day to watch stuff. they'd be downloading 24/7... altho i guess that would only mean 1 drive.
