July 21, 201114 yr Greetings folks! I am running unRAID 4.7 and my /var/syslog is attached. I have recently upgraded my unRAID box with a Supermicro AOC-USAS-L8i 8 Port SAS RAID Card: http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/AOC-USAS-L8i.cfm The card functions very well, I see speeds of 50+ MBs versus 20MBs transfer now, there is only one hiccup. It doesn't appear to report any information on the drives to unRAID. Here is my "Main" screen, where you'll note the array is valid, but no drive serials or temp readings: http://imm.io/7m3h Conversely, here is my "Devices" screen, where at least I can see the serials numbers to know I'm putting drives back in the right slots: http://imm.io/7m3k So, my question(s) is(are): 1) If unRAID sees the drive serial numbers on the "devices" screen, why can't it display them on the "main" screen. 2) Since this card uses "breakout" cables to convert SFF-8087 from the card to individual SATA for the drives, is this the cuplrit? 3) Is this something likely to be addressed in a future version of unRAID, or should I have gotten a different card? Bear with my questions and obvious "newb-ness", I'm not at all upset with unRAID, rather I'm curious about the interaction with the hardware. Cheers, Km. syslog-2011-07-21.txt
July 21, 201114 yr Author There is better support for this controller in the 5.0 betas. Am I in for a world of pain by going with a beta version?
July 21, 201114 yr Read the announcement threads and find out. The latest beta is pretty solid except for people with Macs running Lion. YMMV
July 21, 201114 yr Author Read the announcement threads and find out. The latest beta is pretty solid except for people with Macs running Lion. YMMV That's why I had a smiley after my post I have upgraded and it looks like everything is working ok now, thanks for the tip! Now I just have to find out how to hide my "diskx" shares under 5.0b9 and apparently configure some users...
