[SOLVED] replacing a defective drive

Featured Replies

my first drive failure.

red ball, errors in syslog, and the drive has been making strange mechanical sounds

for a few days (thought it was a failing fan until I checked unraid web server).

I have found that the drive is faulty.SATA cable is ok, and so is power cable.

a return of the drive has been approved by the dealer, so I will get a new one of

warranty.(its an WD2002FYPS / 2TB enterprise disk, used less than a year).

in the mean time, I have bought 2 additional ones, exactly the same,

one meant for immediate replacement, the other for future expansion).

I shut down the server after finding the error, until replacement.

does this wiki entry apply for replacing the disk? :

Replace a failed disk

This is the case where you have replaced a failed disk with a new disk:

Stop the array.

Power down the unit.

Replace the failed hard disk with a new one.

Power up the unit.

Start the array.

When you Start the array after replacing a failed disk, the system will reconstruct the contents of the failed disk onto the new disk; and, if the new disk is bigger, expand the file system.

thats it?

thanks in advance.

Yezz , that's it ;D ;D it's really that easy

It will be recognized automatic as a new drive / upgrade drive.

Automatic the new drive will be filled with data what was on you're older defective drive

it wil be busy for a few hours (2TB =  6 to 8 hours)

and every dot will be green as nothing ever happened!!

Just got to love UNRAID
