[solved] moving data from external esata drive to a share

Featured Replies

I currently have version 4.7 installed with 16 drives and what to transfer data I have on a external esata drive to the array. I was able to enable the drive in snap but I do not understand how to move the data. Unraid sees the drive and I can add it to the array because I have open spots but when I do it says if I start the array the disk will be erased and if I do not want to erase the data to reset the parity and add the disk.

very confused onn how to move the data and not over the network

thanks

mike

You do not want to add the external disk to the unRAID array.

From memory:

Option 1, from Windows

SNAP will make your external drive available on \\tower\snap_name

unRAID files are available on \\tower\unRAID_sharename and \\tower\diskX

You can copy files from their original location under  \\tower\unRAID_sharename or  \\tower\diskX to the external disk under  \\tower\snap_name

Option 2, by logging into the unRAID box

SNAP mounts the external drive available on /mnt/snap_name

unRAID files are mounted on /user/unRAID_sharename and /mnt/diskX

Then you can copy files from their original /user/unRAID_sharename or /mnt/diskX to the external disk /mnt/snap_name
