Automatic boot in 5 seconds does not work!

Featured Replies

For some reason, my server does not automatically boot after a number of seconds when it is turned on.  As part of the boot process, a blue box with the heading text of "Lime Technology, inc." is displayed with multiple options to select. The first option, "unraid OS", is selected by default with text at the bottom stating "automatic boot in 5 seconds..."

Unfortunately, this number does not count down to zero, which should allow the boot process to continue with the default selection of "Unraid OS", and it remains with the default selection and automatic 5 second boot message at the bottom until I press the enter key.

If i don't press enter, the computer will remain in this state permanently!  Because of this, I have to go downstairs each time I reboot the server just to make sure it boots up!  I would like to stress that the page is not frozen because I can press the enter key to manually continue the boot process, but it will not happen automatically in 5 seconds as it should.  How can i fix this?  Has anyone else had this issue?!

Thank you!

Are you pressing a key on the keyboard? I want to say that aborts the timer. Also this sounds similar:

No, I don't press a key but now that you mention it, the up key does not work on the keyboard (left, right and down work.)  Perhaps that key works and could be stuck sending signal that it is pressed, so the BIOS may flag it as a hung key.  I'll read into this further and do some troubleshooting - thank you very much for bringing up this possibility!

The keyboard was the problem!  As I mentioned previously, the up arrow key does not respond when I press it and I assumed it just doesn't work.  After unplugging the keyboard I tried to reboot, then the 5 second countdown worked properly.  After going through this process, I believe the key does work, but the computer is receiving constant keypress events and cancels it out (or something like that.)  Anyway, after unplugging the keyboard everything works properly, so thank you for bringing this up as a possibility.  Now I know not to use a broken keyboard with my home server just because it's the only thing I have available!

Thanks again.

Hey, awesome! Yeah my box is headless 99.9% of the time so I just have some $5 usb keyboard in a drawer. If you're in a similar situation it's probably easier to just replace.

I found a cheap usb keyboard on Amazon to replace it with and purchased it.  This was such a source of frustration for me and I thought Unraid might not be compatible with my BIOS or something.  Glad it has been resolved!
