February 6, 20233 yr Hi everyone, relatively new to unraid but not with the server world. My home NAS over the last couple of days has had the USB corrupting overnight like clockwork. The first time this happened the NAS (QNAP TS-470 Pro) was shutdown - the device is set to boot if power fails, so this was being fully shutdown or put to sleep somewhat. Upon turning it on and accessing the UI I was greeted with an error that the license key was corrupt or not found (disregarded this message and clicked reboot). Once rebooted, the NAS worked fine until the following night where it crashed again with the same error. I wipred the USB which was a brand new Sandisk usb 3.1 32gb purchased last December, copied over the /config file from before and plugged into an alternative USB port on the back of the NAS. Again, all was fine until I woke up the next morning - this morning. I have attached the diagnostics from this morning but cannot see anything that is pointing towards the issue, seems like it shutdown around 00:11am. Thanks in advance! nas.local-diagnostics-20230206-0810.zip
February 6, 20233 yr Community Expert One of the major issues with usb corruption is USB 3.x. The higher speed creates more heat to the stick that makes him wear out much much quicker. The solution is to use an (old and outdated) USB 2.0 stick, slow as a dog but cool as ice. They last almost foreevever because UNRAID does not write to the stick very often. I can't say what is killing your box each night, but using the correct stick will prevent you from corruption. Search the forum here for USB Stick recommendations, some of them are hard to buy, but it is still possible. (what can help too is to use a 3.x stick but plug it into a 2.0 port) Stick speed is no issue. UNRAID only uses it for booting. Edited February 6, 20233 yr by MAM59
