February 9, 20233 yr Hi, first off, I love unRaid, it's the bomb! I've been trying to setup a security camera for my home. I watched the 3 part series on YouTube by spaceinvaderone and I got the setup clear in my head. I bought a PoE switch for the camera. I want to have my unRaid network on my home network (static ip 192.168.2.111) with all my other stuff (TV, games consoles, PCs, etc.) and I want another NIC on another network (static ip 192.168.5.111) connected to my PoE switch with camera with a static ip also. I stopped the array, configured the first NIC as follow: And I have the second NIC (actually it's a USB dongle) as follow: I got some problems: First, unRaid seems to think that my second NIC (eth1) is the default one and now my server cannot connect to the Internet. I cannot update dockers, Emby is not able to get the cover art, etc.). I have put the port down to try to resolve this to no avail. Secondly, with the port up and running, I tried installing the Shinobi docker and set the IP on the 192.168.5 network (br1): But I cannot ping it and the web GUI gives me a timeout. is there something I might be missing in the network config to set the default Ethernet NIC for unRaid to use to access the Internet, and how come I can't reach the Shinobi docker? Thank you in advance for any help you could give me! Cheers!
February 9, 20233 yr Community Expert You did not turn on your eth1! In "shutdown" state it is not very responsive... hit the "Port Up" button. BTW: USB NICs are no good choice for UNRAID. Very few of them work, and even less of them work well and stable. Better try to get a simple and cheap PCIe 1x Card... Edited February 9, 20233 yr by MAM59
February 9, 20233 yr Author Thank you for your reply! I shut down the eth1 to try and resolve my problems but it didn't work and I left it down. But what is weird is, even with the port down, I can still ping 192.168.5.111 (the static ip I gave eth1) in terminal, and it is still using this NIC to try and contact the Internet. But that NIC is connected to a PoE switch which is not connected in any way to the Internet. Is there a way to tell unRaid to use the other NIC by default for all things Internet? My onboard NIC died the other day and I bought a cheap TPLink PCIe card which is working great. Waiting for the card to show up at my door, I used the USB dongle and it worked great! I just want to make sure the setup I'm thinking of can work and I'll take your advice and get another PCIe NIC. Thanks again!

Yeah, and a very simple too: DELETE the default Gateway entry on ETH1! It does not belong there at all, only ONE default gateway can be active at a time. And only the card that is connected to the internet router should have one. But I don't understand the ping if the port is down... or are you just pinging internally??? if yes you just get an echo from the driver himself, not from the card. February 9, 20233 yr Author Yeah I was pinging from my unRaid server so I guess it's the driver that's answering. I will check the gateway settings and report back! Thanks again
February 9, 20233 yr Author Well I removed the default gateway on eth1 and suddenly unRaid saw all the available docker updates and such. Emby can get the metadata and everything. For testing purpose I put all my camera stuff on my main network (192.168.2) and configured Shinobi to start on 192.168.2.51 and now everything is working fine! I'll just try to put my camera stuff on 192.168.5 later. Thank you for your help. I marked your last answer as Solution. Edited February 9, 20233 yr by mathdufort
