July 23, 201114 yr Hi there, I have inserted a previously used Seagate 1.5tb drive, it was used in a Windows Home Server on a Gigabyte Board, the output I now get is this root@Tower:~# hdparm -N /dev/sdg /dev/sdg: max sectors = 2930275055/11041584(18446744072344861488?), HPA setting seems invalid (buggy kernel device driver?) This is with 5.0 Beta 10. I have already tried to run this command, however it was not successful root@Tower:~# hdparm -N p2930277168 /dev/sdg /dev/sdg: setting max visible sectors to 2930277168 (permanent) max sectors = 2930277168/11041584(18446744072344861488?), HPA setting seems invalid (buggy kernel device driver?) root@Tower:~# Any Suggestions? syslog-2011-07-23.txt
July 23, 201114 yr Reboot your array after changing the drive to see how it detects it on reboot. If you're still having issues, see the guide linked in my signature for additional means of fixing HPA, such as using the hdat program.
July 23, 201114 yr You might also try hooking to a different controller. I got similar results as you on a SASLP but not with a motherboard port. YMMV
