February 13, 20233 yr Hello everyone! I bring to you my first head scratch since I started using unraid in 2020 and would appreciate some guidance, ideally based on first hand experience. I've just migrated my unraid setup(usb, nvidia p2000, 10gb nic, hba controller hp h240)+8x6TB disks(7+1 parity) from a X9DRi-LN4F+ to a X9SRi-F, as I'm trying to have a more dedicated server for storage and media. That being said, the one thing I couldn't migrate (lack of additional PCI-e slot) was the 4xNVME PCI-e card which was replaced by 2xSATA3 SSDs (had them around). Today, I am running on a 480GB SSD RAID1 cache what used to be on a 2x1TB NVME cache pools(apps and downloads) and am considering either going for bigger SSDs, more SSDs or both but am limited by the lack of additional SATA3 ports. So, my question is, what's the potential impact of moving some/all HDDs from the hba to the onboard SATA2 ports from a performance point of view considering the HDDs hit max 200MB/sec per drive which is well within SATA2 specs. This would allow me to run 8 additional SSDs Thanks! -Florin
