So..  Got a 10 pack of 50cm locking SATA cables. Really cheap. They look fine, but they don't work. Seller unsuspecting, he had no idea either!

 

Why would they not work? They look identical to the other cables I have.

    Can you check continuity? Did they reverse the connections?

    Don't have the tools for that unfortunately. The connections feel secure, so I'm presuming something like that was done.

     

    I was contemplating opening them up, imagining to find no cable  :P  However I think I'll test them on another system first!

    Did you confirm the connections aren't reversed? Compare "L" orientation end vs. end with a known-good cable.

     

    Yea, I was also thinking "...copper is expensive. Think anyone will notice?". :)
