UNRAID crashes

Featured Replies

I have recently started experiencing crashes at least once per day.  The array is stopped and says there was an unclean shutdown.  The only change made around the time the crashes started was connecting an APC UPS via USB but that has since been removed and the configuration defaulted.  This servers functions are basically just a file server and running a Plex docker instance.  I read on another thread that the intel top plugin for hardware transcoding could cause this behavior but I have since removed that plugin.  Syslog was running at the time of last crash (attached) and diagostics are attached as well.  I am very new to UNRAID and any help is much appreciated.

The syslog in the diagnostics has the same timestamps as the attached syslog, so nothing about crash in there.

When you say syslog was running, do you mean syslog server?

Yes, syslog server was running at the time of the most recent crash but I don't see anything about the crash, just the server starting back up.  The server has been rock solid until a few days ago when the crashes started.

I see gaps in those timestamps when the server was down, but nothing logged to indicate why.

Have you done memtest lately?

  • Author

I have not but I'll kick one off shortly.  Thanks for the input.

The memtest passed so I can rule out the memory I guess.  Any other ideas?  Is there a way to increase the log verbosity?

Just an update for anyone following but it seems to be my Plex Docker instance causing it.  I shut it down and had no crashes for a few days.

Plex Docker instance

Perhaps you have some host mapping into rootfs. The OS runs in rootfs and if you fill that the OS won't have any space to work in.

Post docker run

Docker run screenshot attached (if I did it right).

So after about a month of no crashes, I've had two within the last few hours.  It looks like the logs might be a bit more helpful this though.  Syslog is attached.  Thanks again for the help!

Also, no idea if it is related but I updated the Unassigned Devices plugin not too long before the crashes started.  And I was downloading content to my iPhone for a flight tomorrow both times it crashed.  I've stopped the downloads and will report back if that stops the crashes.
