February 25, 20233 yr Hello All, I'm quiet new with unraid but i have some problems with the parity sync of my unraid server. My parity sync is very slow. On the picture the speed is 10.5 MB/sec but sometimes it drops to 2.5 MB/sec Yesterday i have swaped my HDD for an SSD, The problems start after the HDD swap. Do somebody have some advice for me? tower-diagnostics-20230225-2122.zip Edited February 25, 20233 yr by AviatorNL
February 26, 20233 yr i cannot see what drives you have, they seem to to be hiding behind the FTS PRAID controller. RAID controllers are not supported for unraid Is there any other read / write happening on your array while parity is building? that will slow things down a lot Are you mixing HDD and SSD on the array now - your writes will be limited to slower of the speed of data and parity drive. reads may still get faster if data disk is SSD
February 27, 20233 yr Author Hello, Thank you for your quick reply. I don't know how but the last 2 checks where done by an speed of 300 mb/ps and that is good for me. Maybe he had something to rebuild on the parity?
February 27, 20233 yr Community Expert RAID controllers NOT recommended for many reasons, you will likely encounter some of those reasons in the future. SSDs in the parity array cannot be trimmed, and can only be written as fast as parity.

The main issue to look for is any other IO happening on the array. Any other reads or writes to array will slow down parity rebuild significantly. Is the slow speed sustained or varies over time?
