XBMC slow searches

So mac isn't working on my XBMC for finding sources. i have browsed using 'connecting network location'

 

chosen SMB, and address smb://tower , its all working fine.

 

I just thought though, for SB, the address is /msn/users/media... whilst on tower it seems to be /mnt/media... just want a bit of understanding please. my searches are going pretty slow when it comes to updating the library hence my interest.
