Unraid failing to boot past ../bzroot. No changes or updates made

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago i woke up to my unraid being totally dead/locked.
I hard rebooted the server and ever since I can't get past ../bzroot or ../bzroot-gui in the startup. Not even memtest will load.

I've not changed the hardware or and firmwares, and to my knowledge i didnt update unraid either - it just stopped one day.

Anyone got any ideas?

Alternatively, Is there a way to put a fresh install on a USB and copy all my configuration data over, e.g. my array setup, unassigned devices, docker config etc etc

I've tried safe mode, no plugins etc, all the options in the boot menu. Is there anything i can try in the "Press [TAB] to edit options" menu?

Try recreating the flash drive, backup current one, re-create using the USB tool then restore the /config folder from the backup.

No dice. Brand new USB, new unraid, config copied over, gets as far as /bzroot-gui... on safe mode + GUI

Now try a new flash drive with a stock Unraid install,  no key needed, just to see if it boots.

Ok i managed to get qan older version of unraid to work, with no config. At this point i'm not sure if its the newer unraid version not liking my hardware or something corrupt in my config. Safe mode etc still did not work either. Is there a way to manuually copy my config onto the running USB bit by bit? e.g. the array assignments, then the dockers?

The bare minimum you can try to copy is super.dat and the pools folder, the key, all these are in the /config folder, and the docker templates from /boot/config/plugins/dockerMan/user-templates

Can this be copied to a runnign isntance remotely? Or do i need to power down and unplug the usb? Thanks (P.S. My server is in a somewhat remote position to em so i cant get there very often - thanks)

Yes, but if the array is started when super.dat is copied it will considered an unclean shutdown and a parity check will be started for next boot.

I managed to copy the config over bit by bit to the flash drive once i had a fresh copy of unraid running. I haven't copied everything - just super.dat, pools, and bits of the docker conifg. Touch wood all seems ok now. Thanks
