July 31, 201114 yr Hi Guys Been running Unraid 4.7 for some time no problems Ive just has a drive fail, I checked the drive and there was nothing wrong with it so i ran a preclear and tried to add it in the same slot whilst that drive was rebuilding the server crashed and now a seccond drive has failed the newly failed drive showed up as unformatted I checked it and this time there was an issue! My problem is now i have 2 failed drives and my precleard drive will not format i get the option but it just drops back to the main page if i try to change any deatails i get the "too many missing drives" I was hoping i may be able to remove the parity drive thus disabling parrity and add/replace other drives then bring parity back up to start afresh Is there a way to compleatly start from scratch but keep the data and shares from the existing drives? (11 in total) --Now im at a total loss disk 5 and 9 now have orange balls along with the parity drive when i bring the array online it says theres a new parity drive bring it online and sync i tick ok and nothing happens im begining to think i may have lost 10TB of stuff --- any help would be gratly appricated
July 31, 201114 yr Hi Guys Been running Unraid 4.7 for some time no problems Ive just has a drive fail, I checked the drive and there was nothing wrong with it so i ran a preclear What test did you perform to make you think the drive was OK? and tried to add it in the same slot. Why did you clear it? If it was a OK drive, it had a copy of your data on it. Was there another reason you cleared it? (a totally un-necessary step in this situation) whilst that drive was rebuilding the server crashed and now a seccond drive has failed the newly failed drive showed up as unformatted I checked it and this time there was an issue! If multiple drives are failing, I'd look at the power supply. You have 11 drives. What specific make/model of power supply are you using? What make/model drives? If you disable parity, I can almost guarantee you will lose two drives worth of data. Don't do it until the real situation can be determined. unformatted simply indicates unable to be mounted. It might just need a file system check/repair. Do NOT go clearing things, of you'll just get yourself in bigger troubles. DO NOT DISABLE PARITY at this time. Joe L.
July 31, 201114 yr Author i ran it through the WD data lifeguard tools on a full test with no errors it is a 500GB RE2 drive also preclear waas fine the other drive (WD 1.5 EARS) showed an error so was going to RMA it To be fair i gave up and used the seccond USB stick i purchased, re setup and now have access to most the old stuff i kinda guesed theres no fixing 2 busted disks my on issue now is the split level i was using as now each and every one of my TV series are missing odd files
