Titan84
Hi, Im not sure if this is a bug or something else on my side but im really hoping that someone could help me with this one. Last night i powered off my server and when i powered it back on 10min later, for some reason I no longer see a change in the "Reads" column on my cache pool. When i start the mover i can see data being written to the array and data is definitely being moved off of the cache pool as expected but there is no movement in the "Reads" column. On the array the "Reads/Writes" work just fine and on the cache pool the "writes" are being displayed fine. I have also changed the "Reads/writes" display to see if that made a difference but still no movement is shown in the "Reads" column. I also copied some media onto the cache drive and watched a show but still no change. I then went and moved all data from the cache pool to the array and then deleted the cache pool and created it again after a restart in safe mode but the issue is still there. I have attached my Diags after the mover completed, hoping that someone could help me with this one. Any help would be much appreciated. server-backup-diagnostics-20230407-2258.zip Edited April 7, 2023 by Titan84 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
This is new, run a scrub on the pool, if nothing reboot in safe mode and try again. Quote Link to comment
Titan84
Thanks so much for taking a look for me @JorgeB I did a scrub before i went into safe mode and it found zero errors. I then booted into safe mode and did another scrub and still zero errors. While i was in safe mode I decided to copy data onto the pool, did another scrub and it also found zero errors. I also started the mover once all data was on the pool and im still seeing no movement in the Reads column of the pool if i start mover or access data from the pool. Something i do see is that, on initial start of the array, there is a brief period where the reads column does show some numbers but once the array has settled there no more indications in the reader column. Is there anything else that you can think of or something that i could try on my side? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
The scrub was to confirm you didn't see read activity during that, I assume still not? Also please try a different browser. Quote Link to comment
Titan84
During the scrub process i do see values in the "reads" column so that all looks fine. It looks like that there is no activity in the reads column if the mover is running or if you say, play some sort of media thats on the cache pool. I have also tried different browsers with the same result and have tried incognito in internet explorer but still no activity. Edited April 8, 2023 by Titan84 Quote Link to comment

And are you sure you are actually reading from cache? I find this very strange, and don't remember any similar reports. Quote Link to comment
Titan84
Yeah i agree, its very strange. I havent seen this in the last 4 years of using unraid. Yeah im 100% sure its reading from cache. Im moving files into the cache say 50GB or more and click mover and i can see the files being written to the array. All my shares, except for appdata, system and domains are set to "Yes = Cache" This issue is only happening on my backup Unraid, my primary Unraid server is working perfectly so I should definitely be seeing some movement on the Reads column during the mover process on my backup unraid server. Since this is my backup unraid server im happy to try out things. I know its not a big thing, more annoying but if i can help figure this out im all for it 🙂 Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
I have no more ideas, maybe try a new flash drive with a stock install, only copy super.dat, pools folder and the key from the old one to rule out any config issues. Quote Link to comment
Titan84
Thanks @JorgeB for all your help, i realy appreciated it. Yeah im pretty sure a stock unraid install will fix the issue. if I use the same flash but just do a stock unraid install and wanted to keep my array intact and shares and not lose any data, do I just copy super.dat, pools folder and the key? Anything else I should copy? What would I lose? Just so that I can take note of settings before I do this and know what plugins and dockers to re-download 🙂 Quote Link to comment
itimpi
If you want the share settings intact then also copy the content of the ‘shares’ folder. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Shares will be recreated but with default settings, if you want you can copy the /config/shares folder. Plugins would need to be re-installed, for docker containers you can copy the user-templates to avoid reconfiguring (/config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user) Quote Link to comment
Solution Titan84 Posted April 8, 2023 Author Solution Share Posted April 8, 2023 (edited) Thanks so much guys, really appreciate all the support and guidance! Ill give this a go then and sort out a fresh flash Install 🙂 im sure that will sort this out. Edit: I'll update this post as solved and closed once I have done the fresh flash and if it solves the issue. Edited April 8, 2023 by Titan84 Quote Link to comment
