Added 2 new sata drives but they show as ide

Featured Replies

I have 6 sata ports on my board and the first 4 show as scsi in unraid but the last 2 are showing as ide.

Why would this be?

Enable AHCI setting in BIOS. You shuold not be using RAID or IDE settings.

AHCI is enabled in the bios. That is the strange thing

The other ports are probably on another control and are set to SATA combined mode or something like that.  Look through all the chipset settings for the board, and if that fails then look in the manual.

OK it is set to SATA combined but when I disable that then the machine does not appear to boot into unraid. It just hangs.

Does not appear, or does not?

It just hangs.

Not enough info.  Is there anything on the screen? we need more information

There is a SATA combined setting and it is enabled.

If I disable it then when I boot up it sees all 6 drives as sata but unraid does not appear to start (I do not get the unraid menu page where you can run unraid or memtest). This does not appear. It just seems to sit there and do nothing.

If I revert it back to combined = enabled then it works and unraid loads.

Right now I have the preclear running on both drives but I can change any settings I need once I know why that is happening.

Thx

Switch it again, but then set the boot order. Your USB stick is probably being lost in the shuffle.

Edit: To be clear, you'll need to save & restart between changing the combined setting and fixing the boot order.

Good suggestion. I will try that as soon as I get home.

Because I am running a preclear on the drives right now, will the preclear have to be done again once I switch it to ahci?
