New idea for my Unraid server

Featured Replies

Good afternoon everyone,

I am thinking about replacing my unraid server (old PC) with a new mini system (think NUC i7) and 4 drives connected in a Mediasonic USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosures – USB Type C / USB-C (HF7-SU31C). Would this configuration support vms/containers if storage was its secondary purpose? I already have a QNAP NAS. Mainly for my VM's to support my security and home automation projects.

Thanks,

Zis

You did read the reviews on this on Amazon?  Plus, USB attached drives have not proved to be reliable when used as Unraid Array disks in the past.  I am not trying to say it won't work but you will be on the cutting edge.  If you go down this route, it would be useful if you would report back after three months with your observations and any possible recommendations.
