Shutting Down Fans stay on

Featured Replies

When I power down my unRAID server thru the webpage (Stop and then Power Down) the computer does not shut off.  The fans stay running and the monitor screen screen is black.  I have to manually push the power button to get it to turn off.  Is this normal or anyone have a suggestion on how to fix?  The motherboard is a shuttle AN35.

Likely a BIOS setting.  Poke around in the BIOS for something under power management or APM/ACPI

I made a mistake when I do a powerdown it says system halted but the fans stay spinning.  I have tried all the settings in BIOS with no luck.

Does the screen stay on and the last message on the screen is "System halted" ?

yes

A BIOS update on this old motherboard (Shuttle AN35) fixed this problem.

When the screen stays on and the last message "System Halted" remains, that is a tell-tale sign of a BIOS problem with the ACPI interface.  SOP is to disable S3 mode and allow only S1, and check for BIOS updates -- particularly one addressing ACPI or APM issues.

I see a BIOS update fixed the problem.
