[SOLVED] Boot freeze, if SATA on Asus M4A88 is connected

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I am running UnRaid on a ASUS M4A88 with AthlonII240 and a AOC-SASLP-MV8.

Currently I am running all HDDs on the controller card. Yesterday I tried to add a HDD by connecting it to the SATA ports on the board. During boot the system is going to freeze.

I have tried different cables, different SATA ports and different HDDs.

The moment I remove the HDD from the onboard ports, everything works fine again.

Any ideas?

I need to use the onboard slots for growing - so it would be great if someone could help!

THANKS!

Daniel

What do you mean by "freeze"?  What do you actually see on the screen when it fails to boot all the way?

My first suggestion is to go into the SASLP card BIOS and disable INT13, then go into the motherboard BIOS and make sure the USB drive is still the boot device.

Freezing would mean that the server is actually getting booted but from what I can tell that does not sounds like the case.  I just think that adding that other disk has kicked the USB drive from being the primary boot device.

Is the mobo set to AHCI?

Try IDE.

If it boots it is probably an option ROM issue. Search my post about my motherboard and the SASLP card. You may have to downgrade to 0.15 with the saslp card. Then you can turn AHCI back on.

Hey prostuff1,

thanks for the fast reply and YES-it was that easy.

Shame on me, but the system was not freezing in boot. It just booted the card and did the scan for drives. It stopped when real boot should start, as the boot order was messed up by adding the hdd. I switched it back to USB and everything is running smooth now.

THANKS!

Daniel
