August 9, 201114 yr Am I missing something? The only difference I see between these two is one comes with 4 SATA cables? They have different model numbers and the lower number comes with cables so just want to make sure if I'm missing anything. Also can you confirm if these work with V4.7? Thanks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103105 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103058 I think I'd rather get the Supermicro card with 2 SAS connectors, but there is a deal on these right now for 25% off.
August 9, 201114 yr Yep, the only difference appears to be the SATA cables and the retail box. The cheaper one is a much better deal. That said, I would still choose the SASLP over either of the Adaptecs as it gives you double the amount of ports for only slightly more money.

Newegg has a 25% off code on the Adaptec so the cheaper card is about $67 and shipps free, vs $116 shipped for the Supermicro card.
August 9, 201114 yr Superbiiz carries the SASLP card for $100, and $88 after the current promo code. You'll also need two breakout cables (assuming you aren't using a Norco 4220 or 4224). SASLP: $89+$13.49+$13.49 = $116 $116 / 8 ports = $14.5 per port Adaptec: $67 / 4 ports = $16.75 per port

I was going to lean that way because it is such a good deal for that card. however, I really only need 2 ports right now, and it will be a while before I need more than another 4 TB the other two ports would provide. So while the cost per port is lower with the SAS card, I won't need that many ports for the forseeable future.
August 9, 201114 yr Buy a cheap BR10i ( and one or two cables breakout cables) from EBay and you will have plenty of expansion options
August 10, 201114 yr Author Buy a cheap BR10i ( and one or two cables breakout cables) from EBay and you will have plenty of expansion options I checked this out on Ebay. Isn't this a PCI-E X1 card, or am I missing the specs that it is a X4? If i'm wrong and it is a x4, than I assume the drivers are native to unRAID 4.7? If both of those are right then this is a great deal.
August 10, 201114 yr http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7451.0 It is an x8 card (will need physical x8 or x16 connector to fit, but should work electrically in x4 without problems) Driver support for sure in 5beta... Unfortunately it appears that there is no 3TB or larger HD support as it is an older card and the manufacturer may not provide firmware for that. (it always better to sell new cards). Warning - many of the cards on Ebay are without mounting bracket.

Everywhere I've looked today the interface only says "PCI Express" Which usually means it is only a X1 interface. It says it operates 8 drives, but that's different than a PCIX8 interface, correct? To correctly handle 8 drives without a bottleneck during parity checks it would need to be a x4 interface I think. I do have a spare x16 slot. Here are the specs I saw and seemed to be in multiple places. •Storage Controller •Controller interface type Serial ATA-300 / SAS •Data Transfer Rate 300 MBps •Storage Controller / Supported Device Type Disk array (RAID) •RAID level RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 1E •Processor LSI •General •Device Type Storage controller (RAID) - Plug-in card - Low profile •Interface Type PCI Express •Width 6.6 in •Depth 0.6 in •Height 2.7 in •Weight 3.2 oz •Expansion / Connectivity •Expansion Bays None •Expansion Slot(s) None •Interfaces 2 x Storage ( Internal ) •Connections None •Compatible Bays None •Compatible Slots 1 x PCI Express •Miscellaneous •Compliant Standards UL, TUV, VDE,
August 11, 201114 yr We have four different physical connectors and their pictures are below: http://zone.ni.com/cms/images/devzone/tut/a/c05afe69124.gif Smaller card will fit and probably will work in the larger slots (but with reduced performance). BR10i is physically x8 card
