Yonafunu
Hi, I’m currently building an Itx configuration with only ssd as data pool. (4x2to). I’m relatively a newbie in the NAS world, do you think i need a ssd cache for an all ssd configuration ? Is the ssd pool sufficient as itself ? Thank you ! Regards Quote Link to comment
mousiee
I think it really depends on what SSD's you're using in your pool, what SSD you'll be using as a cache drive and what you use the NAS for. If using SATA/SAS SSD then an NVMe cache pool could provide faster speeds for any task that demands it. Quote Link to comment
Yonafunu
Thanks mousiee, I have 4 sata ssd 2.5 (Samsung and Patriot) for the pool and planning to have 2 NVMe ssd for the cache. I can have a very good deal for 2*1To NVMe Samsung 970 evo plus for 90 euros (almost same price as the 500Go ones) Even if the cache size is overkill, do you think the configuration will be fine ? What will you be using the server for? I don't think you can really go wrong with what you're suggesting, some nvme storage is always nice for running docker/vm and a handful of other uses.
