Boot failure due to new HDD

Recommended Posts

I am working to increase storage by adding a new HDD. I purchased a WD Red Plus 4TB.

When I boot with the hard drive connected, Unraid fails to boot, showing "No valid boot device is connected, press any key to restart." The keyboard does not work at that time.

Unraid boots perfectly fine if I remove the new HDD.

The HDD shows in BIOS.

I can boot into Windows, which allows me to interact with the HDD on the same machine.

Is there any known reason the HDD would be causing Unraid to not boot only when a hard drive is connected?

Many long years ago, I seem to recall a problem when a new disk took the count of disks detected by the BIOS beyond a certain number,  the BIOS would 'forget' that a USB drive was specified to be the boot device.  (I don't recall the solution but it might have been as simple as going into the BIOS-- after installing the new drive --and tell it to use the USB device to boot-up.)
