Hard Lockups after Ram Upgrade

Featured Replies

I have a Ryzen 1700 setup with 2 sticks of 32GB of ram and after the upgrade it's starting to lock up so I upgraded my bios and did a test on the ram to make sure it was stable. I ran the memtest for over 12 hours and it passed all the tests without a xmp profile. I attached the diag files. I hope someone can give me some insight

Check your BIOS for "Power Supply Idle Control" (or similar) and set it to "typical current idle" (or similar).

When you update some BIOS, it is possible the value can be reset, or worse, not even included in the newer BIOS revision.  Older AM4 motherboards have a limited amount of CMOS memory.  As newer Ryzen chips were released (with more functionality to configure) sometimes the code for an often unused setting/feature would be removed.  My rule of thumb is to use the latest BIOS version released before the next generation is released (unless there is a specific issue in a later version you must have).

I have the ASUS PRIME B450M-A II and I had the 2nd before last update to the bios before. Luckily, they don't push out old code as far as I can tell and I Disabled C-state and also Power Supply Idle Control is set to Typical Current Idle
