Multiple disks in array with errors.

Recommended Posts

Hi Unraid forum.

I'm helping out a friend with his system. We're having trouble with multiple disks spitting out errors, It usually happens when we run rclone to sync data to the machine.

Disks have been tested with a long smart data test, and found no problems on them. And they have been working in a Synology NAS for 1.5 years without issues.

We tried unraid a while ago, before he bought the synology, and had errors with some of the same disks, but we assumed it was because the diskshelf he had was bad/ or maybe wires/hba card at the time.

One of the disks that was spitting errors, we pulled from the array, and then did an extended smart test + ran preclear on it. Both came out fine. So I don't think it's the disks that are the issue.

Setup is a 36bay supermicro chassis with an LSI SAS9340-8i HBA card.

I've included diagnostics reports from two occasions, as we have rebooted and making new configs a few times, to see what's going on.

I hope this post make any sort of sense, as I'm scratching my head to figure out how we can make it work with unraid. I'm not sure if it's just mad at the disks he has or what's going on.

I think some of the errors, like the UDMA, are from the first time we ran unraid. But now it more seems like read errors.

We did also try to move the disks from the front to the back, so it sits on another backplane and cable. only thing still the same is the HBA card. We can try and disable spindown though.
