Unable to move/copy files on unraid to my Mac. Now my password is also not working. :(

Featured Replies

I am trying to move/copy a folder from my unraid server to my Mac.  I started the move and it went through like normal.  It's ~500GB and it took a while to start the copying process.  Once it was ready to copy it stopped and told me I don't have rights to copy.  The "folders" are unlocked and they all have read & write permission.  I was looking at the finder window for unraid.  It says I'm logged in as guest.  I thought perhaps that was the problem.  I tried connecting from that window.  But my password would not work.  I typed it in here and it just "shook" each time.  I logged in the webgui (using the saved password on my mac) and got in fine.  I thought if I changed my password perhaps that would help me login on the folder.  I changed my password but it also wouldn't work.  And now when I try to log in to the webgui my new password won't work either.  And neither will my old password.  I tried clearing cache on my browser as well.

I am a total rookie with unraid so be gentle.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I didn't realize I couldn't store my Mac Photos Library on my server and it has caused all sorts of problems.  I am just trying to move it back to my mac (well and external drive) and I can't understand why it won't let me move/copy it.    Screenshots attached but lmk if anything else is needed to help.

TIA!

Have you created a shares user in unraid (users tab), and does your share has access to that user in share settings?

I have not.  Maybe one is already on there from the person I bought it from.  I would go into the Webgui and dig a bit more but I can't log in now.

If you want, you can reset root password used to login to management UI

I read this but I don't have a USB boot flash drive.  Not something that's a boot of the existing.  I literally have nothing but the server itself.  Yikes - I know.

BTW, you cannot access shares as unraid root user, you will need a shares user to do that

Does this mean that I can't move or copy files to another location without a shares user?

that is not possible with unraid. Unraid needs to boot from a USB drive, so it must be plugged into the server. It is possible it is plugged directly into the USB header on the motherboard using an adapter. You should check your server physically and get familiar

not unless it is a public share. You need access to management UI first to see what is the setup

Ok, I will dig into it a bit and try to figure it out.  Thanks for your help.

Hopefully, that will give some answers to the questions you will have in the next couple of days.
