Server becomes unresponsive/unreachable

Featured Replies

Hi there, for the past few weeks my server has randomly become unreachable via ssh/samba/webui, even if the machine and fans etc are still working away. The only way to access it again is by hard resetting via the power button.

I've started to record syslog to a share to see try to debug but it just doesn't log anything unusual. The most recent entry before being switched back on is tailscaled mentioning "magisock enpoints changed" at least 4+ hours before the server became unresponsive.

This morning I grabbed the diagnostics after reading some posts on here over the last few weeks but I don't know what to look for!

Any help at all is very much appreciated!

Having nothing logged usually points to a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.

Sounds like a plan. Much appreciated Jorge!
