can someone please take a look at my syslog and help me to understand what these errors mean and what i can do to repair them.

 

also, should i get rid of all the .ds files?

It looks like sdf is having problems. (The WD5000AAKS-00TMA0) Run a SMART report and let us know.

One of the Mac people here will know more about the best way to deal with the .ds files.

Yes, the drive is failing.  Replace it.  The LAST thing you want in the cache drive is unreadable sectors.  No way to recover, and you can almost guarantee corrupted files as they are copied to the protected array.
